GUANGZHOU WENCHONG DOCKYARD CO. LTD. (GWD) is a major ship repair, conversion and newbuilding facility operating under China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC). Established on January 1, 2006, the dockyard inherits more than 60 years of ship-repairing expertise from Wenchong Shipyard, originally founded in 1955 as a pioneer of foreign ship-repairing business in China. GWD is located on Longxue Island in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, strategically positioned in the Pearl River Delta to serve Hong Kong Port, Yantian Port and Chiwan Port.
The dockyard is equipped with two large graving docks capable of handling vessels up to 400,000 DWT, along with approximately 1,900 meters of quayside at 9.5 meters water depth, fabrication workshops, stainless steel piping workshops, and module fabrication grounds. GWD has an annual capacity for repairing and converting approximately 350 vessels of various types up to 300,000 DWT and building thirty vessels up to Panamax size. The yard specializes in container carriers, oil tankers, bulk carriers, engineering ships, chemical tankers, dredgers, as well as FPSO, FSO and offshore platform conversion projects.
GWD maintains certifications and compliance with international classification societies including DNV GL, Lloyd's Register, ABS, Bureau Veritas, CCS, and NK. The facility holds ISO 9001:2000 Quality System Certification and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification. The dockyard employs approximately 1,600 staff, including 1,000 engineers.
Guangzhou Wenchong Dockyard (Longxue) (Nansha, Guangzhou, China)
Located on Longxue Island in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, the Longxue base is the primary ship repair and conversion facility of GWD. Strategically positioned in the Pearl River Delta, the yard provides convenient access to vessels calling at Hong Kong, Yantian and Chiwan ports. Annual repair capacity: approximately 350 vessels.
